On October 23, FCF joined two dozen other Hagerstown area churches in a coordinated sermon series and community connection campaign entitled #ForOurCity. Birthed through conversations among a few pastors nearly six months ago, hundreds of Christians are now unified, maybe more than ever, around the mandate (Great Commandment & Great Commission) Jesus left for us, His followers. Hagerstown and its surrounding burbs are our “Judea and Samaria,” and the need is undeniable. God expects us to carry out our role as “ambassadors for Christ” and deliver a message of divine reconciliation.
Layers of involvement are a great way to think about this. Certainly, as an individual, God might compel you to get started doing something specific. Another possibility is as a family. Yet another is by small groups (i.e. FCF Home Groups), pairing up your desire for community AND your desire to be ambassadors for Christ into one practical step. Be creative!
We began the campaign a few simple steps of initiation. First, pictured here is the geographic map was displayed on Sunday that represented FCF’s portion of Hagerstown for which to pray.
Second, with FCF already involved in the Rescue Mission on first Tuesdays of the month (“message and meal”), we are taking this opportunity to expose more of our congregation to it. The next “FCF Night” is happening in a week, on Tuesday, November 1, from 6:30 to 8:45 pm. Please contact our church office if you would like to participate. It would be a fantastic to see 10 new faces connect with this great, local ministry. As we like to say, “First come, first GETS TO serve!”
And third, get involved in the Good News Club at Williamsport Elementary. The group meets on Mondays after school. Contact Lynn and Donna Carbaugh (301-331-4973) or the church office to find out how you can share God’s love to the students in our community. Please look to that possibility as another way to be #ForOurCity.
